                    Smith Soccer Blanks MIT 2-0

Cambridge, MA:  The Pioneers defeated NEWMAC rival MIT 2-0 yesterday afternoon in Cambridge improving their record to 6-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. Senior All NEWMAC midfielder Catherine Peo (Stow, MA) led the attack for Smith firing five shots on goal including the game-winner at the 6:38 mark. Peo's unassisted goal was taken from the right side and carried past the outstretched hands of MIT keeper, Kat Vater.  Five minutes later, senior Estefi Alvarez (Quito, EQUADOR) added an insurance goal for the Pioneers as she took a pass from first year Brittoni Famous (Collegeville, PA) in the middle of the box and slid the ball into the left hand corner of the net. Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) started in goal for Smith and picked up her first win of the season stopping 4 shots.
With the win, the Pioneers move into third place in the NEWMAC standings and will host conference leader Clark University on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 pm under the lights at Northampton High School.
