Smith Soccer Ties Clark University

Northampton, MA:  The Pioneers of Smith traveled to Worcester yesterday afternoon to take on the Cougars of Clark University in a NEWMAC game that was scheduled to be played at Smith on Wednesday, but postponed due to weather.  After 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, the two teams played to a 0-0 tie.  Smith holds onto the fourth spot in the conference standings with their 3-1-1 record while Clark sits in second place at 4-0-1.

In the evenly played contest, Clark failed to take advantage of two scoring opportunities, one in the second half when junior Amy Wilson hit the cross bar off a direct kick and one early in the first overtime when senior Jess Blatt headed the ball off the cross bar after a cross from sophomore Amanda Ramos.  First year Smith goalkeeper Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) played all 110 minutes in net for the Pioneers, recording 6 saves to preserve her third shutout of the season.

Smith moves on to face NEWMAC rival Wheaton on Saturday in Norton, MA.  Wheaton is undefeated in conference play (5-0).
