Smith Soccer Shuts-Out Coast Guard, 5-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith College improved to 3-2-1 overall and picked up their first NEWMAC victory today blanking the Bears of Coast Guard 5-0. The home team scored very early in the fist half (:42 into the game) on a shot by senior Johanna Perez (San Francisco, CA) assisted by classmate Catherine Peo (Stow, MA). Smith scored its second goal of the half as first year twins Amelia and Sydney Stoker (Salt Lake City, UT) set up Brittoni Famous ’09 (Collegeville, PA), who tallied her second goal of the season. Taking a 2-0 lead into the half, Smith attacked again less than two minutes into the second half as Perez drew the keeper out of the net and touched the ball behind her to Famous who scored her second goal of the game. Peo picked up her third goal of the year as she scored unassisted off a direct kick and Estefi Alvarez (Quito, EQUADOR) tallied the last goal for the Pioneers. Smith keeper Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) registered her third win of the season and second shut-out.

    Smith is in action again on Wednesday, September 28 when they travel to Hartford, CT to take on Trinity College at 4 p.m.
