Field Hockey Falls to Wheaton

Northampton, MA:  Smith fell to NEWMAC opponent Wheaton College 4-0 in tonight’s home match-up.  With the victory, the Lyons improve to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.  The Pioneers are currently 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the NEWMAC.

The Lyons jumped on the board early as Lauren Connolly (Manchester, MA) scored at 20:52 in the first half.  After the initial goal, the Lyons were stopped by solid defense as Smith’s Megan Maguire (Hatfield, MA) recorded 13 saves in the first half.  The Pioneers also recorded three defensive saves as Janelle McAtamney (West Minster, MA) and Alex Janos (Hillsborough, NJ) were relentless in protecting the goal.  However, Wheaton aggressively attacked the second half by scoring three additional goals.  Alisa Ardito (Brandford, CT) scored at 20:32 and 16:49, while Connolly added her second goal of the night at 19:48.

The Pioneers will be back in action this Tuesday as they travel to NEWMAC rival Springfield College.
