Field Hockey Falls to NEWMAC Rival Mount Holyoke College

Northampton, MA: The Lyons used timely offense in tonight’s home match-up in order to defeat the Pioneers 6-0. With the victory, Mount Holyoke improves to 11-5 overall and 6-1 in the NEWMAC. Smith is currently 6-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

The Lyons jumped on the board early as Susan West (Gwynedd Valley, PA) scored within the first five minutes of play at the 30:11 mark. Minutes later, Elizabeth Colby (Belgrade, ME) continued the attack by scoring her first goal of the night off a penalty corner at 28:02. The first half also highlighted goals by Ariana Baudouin (Norwalk, CT) who was assisted by Colby at the 10:11 mark, as well as by Jaimie Macari (Fiskdale, MA) with an assist from Katie Marquis (Danvers, MA) with 7:02 left on the clock. Colby continued to dominate in the second half as she scored her second goal of the night off another penalty corner at the 24:17 mark. Marcari also tallied her second goal of the evening as she was assisted by Elyse Newman (Portland, ME) with 9:10 left in the game.

Tonight’s contest recognized Pioneer Seniors Allison Hindman Harvey (Philadelphia, PA), Megan Maguire (Hatfield, MA), Emily Downs (Sussex, NJ), Becky Spalding (Springfield, VA), and Emily Leonard (Cornwall, VT) as they played their last home game at Smith. The Pioneers are back in action this Saturday as they compete in the quarterfinal round of the NEWMAC Championship. Location and opponent are yet to be determined.
