Smith Field Hockey Lose 5-1 to Babson College

Babson Park, MA:  The Smith Pioneers were defeated this afternoon 5-1 by the Beavers of Babson College in both teams’ New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference opener.  With the win, Babson begins the year 1-0 in the conference and improves to 9-2 overall.  Smith falls to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Smith’s only goal came off the stick of sophomore defender Kim Wronski (Sturbridge, MA).  Wronski dribbled down the left side and into the circle to score at 12:36 remaining in the game.   Senior goal keeper Megan Maguire (Hatfield, MA) stopped 14 Babson shots. 

Scoring for the Beavers were Elise Conley with two goals and an assist, Brittany Stevens with two goals and Andrea Tufts added a goal and an assist to give their team the 5-1 victory.

Smith will return home for an evening game against W.P.I. on Thursday, October 6th at 6 pm.
