Smith Field Hockey Downed by Amherst 5-1

Northampton, MA: The Amherst Lady Jeffs defeated the Smith Pioneers tonight 5-1. The Lady Jeffs improve to 2-0 while the Pioneers are currently 2-1.

Smith was on the board early as Linnea Michaels (Huntington Station, NY) scored on an assist by Emily Leonard (Cornwall, VT). Amherst scored twice in the first-half by both Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) and Rachel Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) making the half time score 2-1 in favor of the Lady Jeffs.

Amherst returned strongly in the second-half as Carr-Harris scored her second goal with an assist from Molly Gilbert (Penn Valley, PA). Gilbert also added another assist for Katherine Skrivan’s (St. Louis, MO) first goal of the evening. Carolyn Shea (Summit, NJ) scored the last goal for the Lady Jeffs, making the final score 5-1.

The Pioneers will return to the field again on September 17, 2005 as the travel to Wellesley for the Seven Sisters Championship. Smith will face Elms at 11 AM and then play the winner or loser of the Bryn Mawr/Wellesley game at 3 PM with Sunday’s game time to be determined.
