               Equestrians Finish Third at Williams Show

Williamstown, MA: The Pioneers of Smith College finished in third place today out of ten schools at the Williams Show with 28 points. Mount Holyoke won the show with 45 points with the University of Massachusetts in second with 36 points.
    Elyse Lasser (Brookfield, CT) qualified for Regionals in intermediate flat for Smith and Christine Stine (East Dover, VT) was Reserve High Point Champion in the novice division. Winning blue ribbons for the Pioneers were Chia Yen Li (Bayside, NY) and Stine. Michaela LeBlanc (Cotuit, MA), Emily Hertz (Brattleboro, VT), Susan MacLauchlan (Somers, CT) and Bronwyn Riggs (East Bridgewater, MA) all finished in second place. Taking yellow ribbons were Jane Kim (Closter, NJ), Katherine Obara (Portsmouth, RI), Amanda Downing (Cardiff by the Sea, CA), Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE) and Solana Schiller (Southampton, MA).
    A challenge class for open riders was held for the first time with Hertz placing third and LeBlanc finishing 6th.
    The equestrian team will compete again on Saturday, October 29th at the Mount Holyoke Show in South Hadley at 8:30 am.
