                Smith Defeats Elms 60-43 in Tyler Tip-Off

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers of Smith picked up their first win of the season tonight defeating Elms College 60-43 in the Tyler Tip-Off. Senior forward Shelley Harrison (Reston, VA) scored a game high 18 points while pulling down seven rebounds and blocking five shots. Also scoring in the double figures for Smith were sophomore Ashley Sutton (Greenfield, MA) with 14 points and junior Nati Lenchner (Azor, Israel) with a dozen.

             Elms’ Danielle Dugre (Holyoke, MA) led the Blazers with 17 points while Martha Arment (Lee, MA) pulled down a game high 8 rebounds.

             The Pioneers had a 14 point lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half but the Blazers closed to within six at halftime. Smith added to its lead in the second half outscoring Elms 28-17.  With the win, the Pioneers improve to 1-2 overall while Elms drops to 1-2.  Smith will be in action again on Monday, November 28 when the team travels to Trinity College for a 7 pm
contest.
