News Feeds:

The Smith College Athletics Department offers several RSS News Feeds.

RSS stands for either "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary" and is an easy method for obtaining information from websites that are continually updated. Many popular web sites such as the New York Times, CNN, ESPN and many blogs use RSS feeds. An RSS feed is a collection of headlines and brief summaries that contains links to the full version of a news article. RSS feeds are the text-only version of podcasts.

Subscribing to an RSS feed is free and safe. Internet Explorer 7, Safari 2.0 and Firefox 1.5 all have the ability to read and subscribe to RSS Feeds (Firefox calls them Live Bookmarks). Furthermore, online services such as Google, Yahoo!, and AOL allow you to view an RSS feed in your browser window as a part of a personalized home page. Alternatively, you can use any one of numerous computer programs called news aggregators to view the news feed--similar to an email program.

In Internet Explorer 7:
Click on one of the links above. This will load the feed into your window. Then click on "Subscribe to this feed". Alternatively, you can click on the orange feed logo that appears in the Toolbar at the top of the browser window on the main athletics page or the main page of each sport.

In Firefox:
Click on the orange feed logo that appears in the Toolbar at the top of the browser window on the main athletics page or the main page of each sport. This will create a "Live Bookmark" of the feed. Alternatively, (or if you have an older version of Firefox) you can download and install Sage, a Firefox extension that works as an RSS feed aggregator.

In Safari 2.0:
Click on one of the links above. This will load the feed into your window. Then click on "Add Bookmark". Alternatively, you can click on the blue RSS logo that appears in the address at the top of the browser window on the main athletics page or the main page of each sport.

Other Options:
Google Reader - a web-based RSS reader
Bloglines - another web-based RSS reader
