Informal Gallery Conversation about a Work-in-Progress with Sheila Pepe, Installation Artist
Targan Gallery, Smith College Museum of Art
Ms. Pepe (a former employee of the Museum) will comment and chat as she works on her original art work for the Museum's Targan Gallery. The piece, which will become part of the Museum's permanent collection, was commissioned in honor of Ann D. Johnson who retired as administrative assistant to the director in June of 2006. Mrs. Johnson served under five directors over a period of 22 years.
Ms. Pepe will create this site-specific installation throughout the week of July 7-11. Visitors to the Museum will be able to observe the work-in-progress during Museum hours either from the Museum lobby or from Sacerdote Gallery. The July 9 program, however, offers the only opportunity to visit with the artist as she works in the gallery.
The installation will be completed by Friday, July 11, in time for Second Friday, and will remain on view through October 5, 2008.
Current Members of the Museum are invited to reserve a space soon for the Informal Gallery Conversation with Sheila Pepe. Program attendance will be limited to 50. Enjoy this rare opportunity to view an original work of art through the eyes of the artist, as the work is created.
Current Members of the Museum may reserve by Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Reservations will be taken in the order in which they are received.
