Traveling to SCMA

The Smith College Museum of Art is located in Northampton, Massachusetts, on the eastern edge of the Berkshires, five minutes from Interstate 91.

• BIKE
  • Western Mass. Bike Paths and Trails
• BUS
  • The Peter Pan bus line terminal is located four city blocks from the Museum.
• CAR
  • Approximately two hours from Boston and three hours from New York City. A limited amount of free and metered parking is available on streets surrounding the Museum.
• TRAIN
  • Visitors traveling by train connect through Springfield, Massachusetts, and transfer to a Peter Pan bus to Northampton, arriving at a terminal four city blocks from the Museum. Note that the Springfield Peter Pan terminal is a three-block walk from the Springfield Amtrak station. An alternate route is to take the train to Amherst, then connect by PVTA bus to Northampton.
• AIR
  • The closest major airport is Bradley International Airport (BDL —Hartford/ Springfield), located approximately forty minutes south of Northampton in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

Driving Directions

From the NORTH:

1. Follow I-91 south and take exit 20.
2. From off-ramp, proceed straight south on King Street (Route 5).
3. Continue on King Street for 1.4 miles to Main Street (Route 9).
4. Turn right on Main Street.
5. Travel through downtown Northampton for 0.3 miles to traffic light, where the name of Route 9 changes from Main Street to Elm Street.
6. Continue on Elm Street.
7. Museum will be on your left as you head west on Route 9/Elm Street.  Look for the colorful vertical banners hanging on the front of the building.

From the SOUTH:

1. Follow I-91 north and take exit 18.
2. From off-ramp, turn left at the T-intersection onto Route 5 (north).
3. Continue north on Route 5 for 1.1 miles to Main Street (Route 9).
4. Left onto Main Street.
5. Travel through downtown Northampton for 0.3 miles to traffic light, where the name of Route 9 changes from Main Street to Elm Street.
6. Continue on Elm Street.
7. Museum will be on your left as you head west on Route 9/Elm Street.  Look for the colorful vertical banners hanging on the front of the building.
