Lori Lober, Smith class of 1983
This picture haunts me with its eerie sense of both isolation and curiosity. It reminds me of the internal intrigue and existential loneliness of even the most hopeful soul. I've had a postcard of the painting on my fridge door for 30 years and often think of Smith and the rich, deep, and complicated emotions I associate with the transformative time I spent there in the company of now lifelong friends.
Oil on canvas.
Gift of Mrs. Charles MacArthur (Helen Hayes LHD, class of 1940).
