Jason Berg is president of New England Glass Design, Inc., a company he founded in Northampton in 2001, whose mission is “To change the common impression that glass is fragile.” His bench for Sit Up & Take Notice! is made of three separate cast pieces bolted together. Along the sides of the two-inch-thick seat are inscriptions marking the bench’s relationship to the Friends of the Smith College Museum of Art. The bench is intended to remain permanently in the lobby of the Museum. It was designed, however, with inscriptions on all four sides, to allow for its future placement elsewhere.
