TRYON'S ART
Along with the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.,
the Smith College
Museum of Art holds one of the finest collections of
Tryon's work in the
world. Some twenty paintings and drawings are included in
this exhibition.
One highlight, The First Leaves, won the prestigious Webb
Prize in 1889,
the year of its creation. The painting was recently cleaned and returns to the museum after an
extensive tour through
Australia and the United States in an exhibition organized
by Hartford's
Wadsworth Atheneum, New Worlds from Old: 19th Century
Australian &
American Landscapes. |
