Most of the museum's permanent collection is safely tucked away in storage until early 2003 while the building is expanded and renovated.

This temporary loss to members of the Smith community is a boon to people who would normally need to travel to Northampton, Massachusetts to see these works, because three exhibitions of the museum's most important paintings, sculptures, and drawings, will tour the United States and Europe until the building renovation is completed. Each tour venue will host at least one special event for Friends of the museum and Smith College alumnae.

If you've never seen the Smith College Museum of Art, a visit to any of these shows would make an impressive introduction. Or if you're an old friend, this is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with your favorite paintings, sculptures, and drawings from the museum's collection.
