At the turn of the last century, a group of photographers interested in exploring the artistic potential of photography sought to create images that captured the imaginative vision of the photographer rather than a literal record of the natural world. Alfred Stieglitz, Gertrude Käsebier, Clarence White, and Anne Brigman were enthusiastic proponents of this approach. Examples of their work as well as that of other adventurous art photographers are featured in this exhibition, organized by Maureen McKenna, Luce Curatorial Assistant for American Art. |
