I.D.: A Selection of Works in honor of
Otelia Cromwell, class of 1900
Cunningham Center Corridor
October 27-December 16, 2007
I.D. features selected works on paper by African-American artists from the permanent collection of the Smith College Museum of Art. These works take different approaches to the theme of “identity:” how it is constructed, represented, and problematized. In conjunction with this exhibition, the museum has also launched the project ID-Tags, a series of supplemental labels for selected works of art on view in the galleries of the Smith College Museum of Art. These works will be reconsidered in terms of social concerns and concepts that inform personal identity, such as race, class, sexuality and ideas of beauty.
The works in this exhibition were selected by SCMA Curator of Education Ann Musser, SCMA Curator of Prints Drawings and Photographs Aprile Gallant, Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe (class of 2008), Anne Goodner (class of 2007), Sophia La Cava-Bohanan (class of 2008), Kelly Montana (class of 2009), and Andrea Rosen (class of 2009).
