Tryon Prize

This prize is awarded by the Smith College Museum of Art for the best piece of writing by a student on a work or works of art at the Smith College Museum of Art. The writing may take any form and need not have been prepared for a course assignment. The competition is open to all Smith undergraduates. The prize has been endowed by members of the museum’s Visiting Committee and is named for Dwight W. Tryon, painter, benefactor of the museum, and professor of art at Smith College from 1886 to 1923.

Submissions are due in late April. Submissions must include the following information on a separate sheet:

  • Your name and class year
  • Your campus telephone number, address and e-mail
  • Your telephone number, address and e-mail in late May/early June if different
  • A description of the course assignment (if the writing was prepared as a course assignment)
