X-radiographs were made using a Lorad x-ray machine. The
x-radiographs were crucial for dendrochronology, a process
used to determine the age of the wood panels of the altarpiece.
X-radiography shows the distribution of pigments containing
elements with high molecular weight such as lead white, lead-tin
yellow, and vermilion. The location of losses or fills is also visible. |
