Silk Crewelwork Shawl
Crewelwork, or crewel embroidery, is a decorative form of surface embroidery usually using wool and a variety of different embroidery stitches to create a textured and colorful effect. The technique is at least 1000 years old. This particular piece is created with silk embroidery threads, allowing for a finer embroidered pattern and creating a more subtle raised, dimensional feel than the thicker wool.
This extraordinary one of a kind antique silk shawl in ivory with an open weave pattern is from Kashmir. The dimensions are 76 x 32.
