Smith College Print Workshop: Whitfield Lovell

The Smith College Print Workshop runs from March 28–31, 2011 and is a collaboration between artist Whitfield Lovell and Master Printer Maurice Sanchez. Visitors welcome on a "drop-in" basis to observe both the creative process and the complex give-and-take between the artist and master printer -- a unique opportunity to see the creation of a limited-edition print. (Limited number of prints from the workshop will be for sale; proceeds to fund future workshops.)
The Eighth Annual Dulcy Blume Miller Lecture in Art: Artist Whitfield Lovell

The Eighth Annual Dulcy Blume Miller Lecture in Art will be delivered by Whitfield Lovell, a contemporary artist known for creating emotionally moving artworks that engage themes of memory, history, and ancestry. A recipient of numerous awards and grants, including a MacArthur Fellowship in 2007, Lovell creates meticulously-drawn portraits of African-Americans based on vintage photographs, juxtaposing these images with resonant objects.
Whitfield Lovell’s work is held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art, as well as the Smith College Museum of Art (SCMA). More Than You Know: Works by Whitfield Lovell is on view at the Smith College Museum of Art January 28–May 1, 2011.
