Tryon Prize
The Tryon Prize is a monetary prize awarded by a jury for outstanding writing or studio work in new media that examines art or ideas associated with the Smith College Museum of Art. Any Smith student may compete for the prize.
The Tryon Prize is named for Dwight W. Tryon, painter, benefactor of the Smith College Museum of Art (SCMA), and professor of art at Smith College from 1886 to 1923 and is endowed by members of SCMA’s Visiting Committee.
Writing
Writing may take any form, from a thesis to poetry. Jurors seek scholarship, insight, and originality. (Sorry, no electronic submissions.)
Include a cover sheet with:
- Name
- Class year
- E-mail address
- Campus ext. or cell #
- Campus address
- Home address
If the work was prepared as a course assignment, you must attach a description of the assignment.
New Media
Installation, Performance, or Digital Art
Video or photographic documentation of installation or performance art is accepted. Submit digital materials on a disk in formats compatible with Windows (.jpg, .mpg, .pdf, .rtf, Quicktime, etc.).
Label all material with:
- Name
- Class year
- E-mail address
- Campus ext. or cell #
- Campus address
- Home address
You must include a written statement describing the concept of the work and its development.
If the work was created as a course assignment, you must include a description of the assignment.
Deadline
All material must be received by Tuesday, May 1, 2012.
