Gary Niswonger earned his B.A. from Miami University; an M.Ed. from Ohio University; and an M.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design.
Professor Niswonger teaches traditional intaglio techniques, stone lithography, design, and drawing utilizing Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, and Painter. He also conducts small group Special Studies (ARS 400) involving outdoor painting.
His personal visual interests are the reconfigured landscape of human occupation, particularly in contrast to what might be thought natural; painting landscape in oil and gouache; color as subject; and the space and light of immediate experience. He has exhibited both paintings and prints for 30 years in numerous group and solo exhibitions from Northampton to Tokyo.
