John Moore earned his A.B. from Cornell University and an A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Professor Moore teaches courses on European urban, architectural, and landscape design circa 1250-1750, and seminars and colloquia on aspects of European art of the 18th century.
He has published an article on The Monument, a 202-foot Portland stone column designed and built (1671-77) by Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the Great Fire of London, and several articles on festivals and related ephemeral designs in 18th-century Rome. Among other themes, his ongoing research projects explore various relationships between the visual arts and the conduct of diplomacy in 18th-century Europe.
