John Moore teaches courses on European urban, architectural, and landscape design from ca. 1250 -1750, "Great Cities: London," "Great Cities: Rome," and seminars and colloquia on "The Age of Louis XIV," "The Arts in England, 1485-1714," "History of European Decorative Arts, 1400-1800," "Renaissance Courts," and aspects of European art of the eighteenth century. He has published an article on The Monument, a 202-foot-tall Portland stone column designed and built (1671-77) by Sir Christopher Wren to commemorate the Great Fire of London, and several articles on festivals and related ephemeral designs in eighteenth-century Rome. Among other themes, his ongoing research projects explore various relationships between the visual arts and the conduct of diplomacy in eighteenth-century Europe.
