Major Faculty Courses Handbook Options Careers Resources News |

Smith students who graduate with a degree in American Studies have more career options than did the subject of Edwin Elmer's painting. Students who graduate from Smith Collge with a B.A. in American Studies pursue a wide range of career alternatives. Several of our majors a year go on to Ph.D. programs, most often in U.S. history, American literature, or American Studies. Some pursue graduate programs in historic preservation, material culture, or museum studies. Over time, many of our graduates go on to graduate or professional work that prepares them for careers in law, business, social work, public policy, elementary and secondary education, and communications. Over the course of the years, our majors find careers and life choices that are not markedly different from those who have majored in fields such as History, Government, Sociology, English. Testimony from American Studies Alumnae Smith's Career Development Office For information on careers from the American Studies Association's Crossroads Project, see http://www.georgetown.edu/crossroads/community.html, for a site with information on professional organizations and resources for AMS students. |
