"I am currently an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the San Francisco office working on both corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions for West Coast-based companies. There is no direct connection or correlation to what I currently do to my major in American Studies once upon a time ago at Smith. However, there is a basic skill set that I learned as an American Studies major which I believe still applies to my job in investment banking on a daily basis. In thinking out financial and strategic options for my clients of varied sorts and needs, I have been able to utilize cross-fertilization skills that I learned while weaving my American Studies. I believe my American Studies major allowed me to think more broadly and leverage my learnings from one course, era, and subject matter to another. In that regard, American Studies has influenced the way I think about my clients, their different industries, structures and needs." |
