"So, 'What do Smithies with B.A.s in American Studies do?' I am currently doing a job I wanted to do my whole life, which is working in educational media for kids at Children's Television Workshop. I have been on the path of working with/for children creatively and educationally since high school. I batted around in that genre - children's museums, youth theatres, teaching elementary school - until I arrived at CTW by chance, yet also possibly by design. American Studies gave me a tremendous understanding of the social, cultural and political forces that shape the environment of our country's kids. I knew I would end up pursuing some sort of Masters in Education and felt that American Studies provided a comprehensive background upon which to place a specialization." |
