"…I graduated with a B.A. in American Studies in 1995. I applied to veterinary school this past year and have been working in the veterinary field for 2 years. Although there is no obvious connection between my American Studies major and veterinary medicine, there are subtle ones. American Studies inspired my interest in the Americorps*National Civilian Community Corps, which is a community service program based in Washington, DC. During my year spent as a Corps member, I experienced and learned so much, and finally determined what I wanted to be 'when I grew up.' The fact that the American Studies is an interdisciplinary major is a huge bonus. What I learned in various fields helps me relate to all kinds of people, which, after all, is a lot of what veterinary medicine is all about." |
