Over 70 mathematicians-alumnae, faculty, students, and friends-attended the first conference in Celebration of Smith College Alumnae Mathematicians on April 21-22, 2001. The conference officially open on Saturday with 13 presentations, a discussion "on being a woman in mathematics," and a banquet in the Alumnae House. At the banquet Ellen Gethner and Joan Hutchinson showed another side of the speakers and reminisced about the math department.
