This year's Ivy Day event was held in the Inside Track and Tennis facility due to rain, which didn't dampen the spirits of the 924 alumnae and 229 guests who streamed into the large gym.

After roses were distributed to seniors and everyone was seated, class officers marched around the track to cheering students. At the conclusion of the parade, out-going acting president John Connolly addressed the seniors, who responded with a standing ovation. Lynn Fox '77, chair of the Alumnae Fund Committee, announced awards and reunion class gifts, and senior class president Moliehi Pefole '02 reminded students to continue to support their college.

The traditional singing of Gaudeamus Igitur ended with stomping and cheers and then the planting of the ivy. Shelly Lazarus, chair of the Smith Board of Trustees, closed the ceremony with stirring remarks on what it means to be a Smithie!
