Making a Smith Education Accessible: Financial Aid
The
size and diversity of high school classes is increasing,
and so is the pressure on colleges to provide
aid to promising students who have potential-but
lack the funds-for a liberal arts education.
Fifty-nine percent of Smith students receive need-based
college grants: for Ada Comstock Scholars, that
figure rises to almost 86 percent. In FY05,
the average Smith grant was $20,926, supported
by endowed funds, the Alumnae Fund, and other
resources.
Financial aid is a key factor in attracting good
students to Smith. In the past five years, Smith
has significantly increased support for financial
aid to traditional-age undergraduates and Ada
Comstock Scholars, including the creation of the
STRIDE program.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am
for the valuable gift the Class of 1930 Scholarship
Fund has given me through this grant. My name
is Misozi and I am from Zambia. Thanks to
you I am actually the first person from my
father’s side to go to college!...(more) |

Without your grants, I would not have had
the opportunity to be pushed so hard and I
would not have had the pleasure of realizing
that I am capable of accomplishing much more
than I had previously thought. I have never
worked so hard and been so proud of myself
as I am of my work for this last semester...(more) |
