National Science Foundation Support
Smith has received $150,000 from the National
Science Foundation to connect to the Internet
2 network. With the intense level of scientific
and technical research underway at Smith, connecting
the college to this high-speed, international
research network is crucial. Internet 2 transmits
enormous amounts of data from scientific instruments
almost as quickly as the data are collected, thus
increasing the quantity and quality of “thinking
activity” among scientists and engineers.
