Mellon Foundation Support

In June 2003, the Mellon Foundation awarded Smith a planning grant of $130,000 to address four campus residential life priorities:

• Implement a diversity curriculum to focus on acceptance of difference and to develop skills of conflict resolution
• Utilize the new campus center to pilot programs on diversity and community building
• Connect first-year students with their pre-major advisers outside of the classroom through informal meetings
• Conduct a feasibility study to examine Smith’s current house system and residential options for the future.
