What's new at Smith? It's a question you often ask when we visit your school or Community Based Organization. This year, there's a lot to report from Northampton.
We are excited to announce the four new Smith centers for engagement, learning and leadership. Inter-disciplinary by design and engaged with contemporary issues, the centers help students to examine current events and issues and develop the leadership skills needed to carry out individual, community and global responses.
The Center for Work and Life helps students explore how women can achieve the balance they need for work, family, public service, health and wellness. Students examine current research on women's lives and reflect on their own experiences to define their own individual concepts of fulfillment.
The Center for Community Collaboration will help students integrate their academic work with experience in the local community through volunteer service and independent projects and internships.
The Center for the Environment, Ecological Design and Sustainability fosters collaborations and cross-disciplinary offerings that bridge the natural and social sciences, arts and humanities to advance environmental literacy, research and projects. Working alongside Smith professors, the students discover how they can bring together environmental concerns with workable solutions toward a sustainable future.
The Global Studies Center prepares students for global leadership by bringing together American and international students, scholars and faculty members to engage with international and intercultural issues. From their first days on campus, students will learn how to design for themselves a program of in-class and out-of-class global leadership experiences using resources like the center.
