I would say I am a little unorthodox, but then again, who at Smith isn't? Although, I do have some interesting quirks that tend to set me apart from the norm. I have wanted to attend Smith since I was 10 years old, I am abroad my senior year, I only declared my major once, and I'm a Yankee fan. All of these I can explain at length to anyone who will listen because I love to tell stories! I could usually be found at dinner in Tyler House gesturing and jumping out of my chair, but now I try to explain myself calmly in Italian to my fantastic host family here in Florence, Italy.
Being from Rodeo country in Payson, Arizona there are a few things I miss from home like the eternally delightful weather and Alfonso's bean and cheese burritos. But that is what has been WONDERFUL about Smith - how incredibly different life is. Before I came east for college, I had never tasted real maple syrup, seen three feet of snow, or challenged myself this much. The challenge - that is what I love! Where else could I be pushed this hard while surrounded by brilliant professors who encourage me and intelligent women who support me? The answer is nowhere because I feel like Smith fits me like a glove.
In high school I played volleyball and it was important that I could continue with sports in college. Being involved with two varsity sports at Smith keeps me at practice and matches/meets six days a week, year-round. It is exactly the release I need from the rigorous academics at Smith! I couldn't imagine my Smith experience without the friends I have made, personal achievements, connections at other colleges, and healthy lifestyle that I have maintained all thanks to sports. Go Pioneers!
I need a tasting of everything on my plate to make me happy. I love to be involved and I don't let anything pass me by. If it interests me of course I want to do it! The opportunities, clubs, organizations, lectures, and concerts at Smith are endless that I hate to say it but it really would be impossible to do it all - but I sure try! |
