I was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. My parents migrated here in 1979 from Cape Verde. Many people do not know where this Island is located or where we mostly settle in the U.S. It is located off the West Coast of Africa. Cape Verdean's mainly settle in Boston, New Bedford and Providence, just to name a few. However, I believe where ever you go you can find at least one Cape Verdean. Education is a very big deal in my family and I am very grateful to have family members who have motivated me and have believed in me. As well as Smith College, who saw something in me and knew that I would fit right in.
Smith College has a way of sucking you into this bubble of life, that is quite different from what many are used to. At this college you are expected to speak out about issues and topics that spike your interest. Have intellectual conversations with your classmates and professors. You are encouraged to do all that you have dreamed of and Smith has a great of supporting you threw that dream.
The professors here are wonderful and we are very lucky to have such small classes. This helps students create great friendships with their classmates and professors. In my spare time I find myself hanging out in Northampton's trendy downtown area, but if I'm feeling really adventurous my friends and I might head over to Holyoke mall which is the biggest mall in New England.
Smith College offers Women a great opportunity to live, laugh and love life. It's my home away from home and an experience I shall never forget.
