| | It seems like March is the time of year when everyone is awaiting one type of acceptance letter or another. When I was a senior in high school I remember eagerly anticipating letters from colleges, but little did I know I would be awaiting other types of decision letters as a sophomore in college (and probably as a senior, too).
I have decided that if I am accepted into the study abroad program at University of Bristol, in Bristol, England, I am going to go. The more I considered the pros and cons, it really dawned on me that I am probably not going to have the opportunity ever again to just pack up and live in another country for 4 months. I am also very excited to have a 4 week winter break which I will use to travel; I'm thinking I want to spend most of that time in Italy. While I won't be taking any classes in my major while in Bristol, in a way I am looking forward to dedicating one semester to learning about and having to adjust to a different culture and diverse perspectives.
I am also awaiting letters regarding summer internships. I am most excited about one that puts undergrads. into the classroom as full time teachers for 8 weeks. I would be teaching middle school English to disadvantaged students. My primary interest in the field of education is urban schooling and the unique challenges it faces, thus this program sounds very exciting to me! Another Smithie did it, and gave a presentation about her experiences, which is how I found out about it and got interested.
Finally, I am awaiting a response from the Alumnae Association, regarding working reunion. I am especially excited about this because an alumna I know from the class of 1938 will be returning to campus for ther 70th reunion! Students who work reunion stay an campus for two weeks after exams, and get to see many of the traditions that make Smith so special: sophomore push, Ivy Day, illumination night, among others. Usually current students have left campus by then, so I am very anxious to get a peek into what I have to look forward to in two years!
However, for now, I have a midterm to look forward to tomorrow. I had better go study. |
