| | Hi All,
The weather here is starting to get colder and nearly all the leaves are down. I guess I have to send my girl out to rake the leaves. This is something rather new and foreign to my daughter and I. Where we lived in NZ there are not many deciduous trees, they are mostly evergreen, so there is no raking of leaves to be done. When we lived in Chicago before coming to Northampton, we lived in a condo--no raking of leaves there either. Now, I have a huge gravel front parking area at my house, and when the leaves have fallen all over the ground, no amount of braking in the car will stop the car slipping down the slight incline of the driveway into oncoming traffic.
Two great Ada events happened on campus this week at Smith. First the Ada puzzle piece project was put up on Chapin Lawn. This is a great event to kick off Ada Awareness Week. Adas or their families can submit a piece of writing, artwork, or photos, basically anything they like that describes their journey to Smith and what Smith means to them. The submissions are laminated and placed on puzzle piece cut outs and hung on shepherd hooks around the central lawn on campus. Anyone can walk past and read/view the pieces and gain some insight into the magnificent journeys that Adas have made to get to this point. They are so inspiring and add to the vitality of the campus grounds.
Also this past Sunday was the 2nd annual Smith Kid Connection (SKC) Pumpkin Carving. Open to all of the Smith community, it is a chance to bring Adas, children and traditional students together. We also had a lot of carvers from the Northampton community which was great to see. It was a hugely successful event, and a lot of fun was had by all. I am especially proud of a cat pumpkin that I helped create--with a shout out to Braden, as his supervision was instrumental in the successful carving!
Check out the photos of the puzzle piece hanging and the SKC Pumpkin Carving, complete with a picture of Braden and his pumpkin; as well as other members, kids, and traditional students carving their pumpkins, in the My Photos section of my blog page.
