Happy almost-Thanksgiving break! These couple of weeks have been crazy...but it is nice to be busy (and gratifying when everything finally gets done!) It's so hard to believe that we only have about a month left of classes before finals. This semester has really flown by! Since I last blogged, I've had the chance to take part in a number of exciting Smith experiences! At the end of October, my sedimentology class went on a weekend field trip to look at fossils and carbonate rocks in upstate New York (a very exciting experience for geo. majors!). We also got to hang out with a paleo class from Amherst College. At Smith, we get the opportunity to meet with other five college students quite frequently. Not only do you get to go on exciting geology field trips with Amherst students :) but there are also five college students in many Smith classes and you get the opportunity to go to five college lectures in any department. Then there are the parties you can hit up on the weekends (if you're into partying!) at any of the five colleges! Being in the five college system is a definite advantage to being a Smithie!
Another exciting event was that last weekend I got to see my friend Meredith perform in the world premiere of "Flip Side," a play written by the wife of a Smith theater professor. The play had an amazing multi-media stage setup and, although the deeper meaning of the play was a bit over my head, it was so much fun to see the performance!
Speaking of performances, our fall orchestra concert is coming up next weekend! I'm excited because we get to have lunch at President Christ's house with Joan Tower, the composer of one of the pieces we're playing. It will be so cool to talk with a modern, living, female composer!
I'm also looking forward to this weekend as we're going on a field trip in my Intro. to Wilderness Skills class! On this field trip we'll be hiking, learning how to build shelters, cook on camp stoves and just relax outdoors! I hope it doesn't rain! (or snow????)
