| | Last Saturday it was Rhythm Nations, a show of dances and music from around the world organized by the International Students Organization. From the flag’s parade to the very last act, it was simply an amazing show!
There were two dances from India, one called “Marjani Marjani” and “Aaja Nachle” which were both modern types of dances choreographed by Louisa, who is originally from Nigeria, but who loves Indian dance. There were also performances from Mongolia, Afghanistan, Hungary, China, South Korea, Georgia, Tibet, and Japan.
But my two favorites were the Cabinet’s dance and the Senior dance. The Cabinet dance was performed by the International Students Organization cabinet members and it was hilarious because they had a little dance competition performance in which they danced each other’s traditional dances. Chi from China and Abiola from Nigeria danced a Latin American rhythm whereas Yara from Bolivia and Paola from Guatemala danced to an Indian tune. The Senior dance on the other hand, was also my favorite because all the international students graduating in 2009 and some of us graduating in January 2010 just got on stage at the end of the show to celebrate the culmination of four fantastic years at Smith. It was great to see almost everyone on stage!
Congratulations to all the performers and to the International Students Organization for organizing such a great show!
