| | There's less than a month of school left and there's no break in sight. For most of Smith, that means its crunch time while everyone works on the last of the big assignments and gets ready for finals. For me, that means two more papers, three take home finals, and an in-class final exam. In the midst of all this, it's easy to see that many students need a break. Thus the emergence of Winter and Spring Weekends, three day long extravaganzas in which every house on campus throws some sort of party. It happens every semester a couple weeks before finals, and the parties held range from typical large dance parties, open to all five college students, to semi-formal mock-tails for only the residents of the house. This year, my house threw a karaoke night/no-talent show only for Haven-Wesley residents. Everyone dressed up and laughed for hours at the absurdity of the performances, which at one point included almost our entire house singing Don't Stop Believing at the top of our lungs. It's a nice way for everyone to forget about school work and just have fun.
In addition to individual house parties, there are a bunch of campus-wide events. This weekend, there were two big events, the Starlight Ball and a magician/comedian brought by the Campus Center Activities Board. I went to see the comedian, Derek Hughes, and laughed for the entire hour and a half of his performance. Afterward, a bunch of friends and I talked to him for a couple minutes. It was a great Friday night activity. |
