I came to Smith from my hometown of White Plains, NY where I attended the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the Bronx. I was always really active in my high school community with music, theater, dance, community service and diversity awareness activities. I knew that when I went to college I wanted to find a school that would continue to give me the close attention I was used to as well as ample opportunity to explore my many interests and talents in a pressure-free environment.
Smith was never on the top of my list, but after visiting in the summer before senior year and then returning to the campus for the Women of Distinction program, I knew that this was where I wanted to be. Everyone whom I had met during my visit was really supportive and accepting of who I was as a person. I knew then that if I came to Smith, that these feelings would only be enhanced. What also drew me to Smith was the beautiful campus, the town of Northampton and Smith's open curriculum. Both myself and my parents knew that this would be the best institution to prepare me for the real world both mentally and physically; I applied to and got accepted to Smith under the ED program.
So far at Smith my first year has been a blast, and my second year here is shaping up nicely. I love taking advantage of the 5-college consortium, both for social events, and for academic resources as well. On Smith's campus I have been able to try a lot of new activities such as WOZQ, our radio station and the Jazz Ensemble. Some activities that I have tried here have not gone as well, but that's OK too ... there is never any pressure or restriction here to try something new. Currently in my academic career I am trying to figure out what I want to study. I am in the proposal phase of trying to get a self designed major in Urban Planning approved. I cannot wait to take my PRAXIS, and Study Abroad, possibly in Thailand if I get my major approved.
Beyond my life at Smith I also love traveling. I have been to S.E. Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean and hope to do a lot more traveling in the future. I also love music, especially world and jazz music, writing, dancing and spending time with friends and family back home in New York City. What's great about Smith is that my love for travel, music, dance and writing can continue on campus with a variety of lectures, clubs, performances and other opportunities. All in all, Smith has been the perfect fit for the woman I was, the woman I am now, and the woman I hope to be in the future. |
