 Completely Random, Completely Awesome

April 09, 2009

So, I couldn't resist posting twice in one week, especially since my last post was about rainy days and stress at Smith. Yes, I'm back with something completely different, especially because today is such a nice day here. My enthusiasm for the beautiful weather has inspired me to share 10 other great, and completely random things that I love about Smith that days like today remind me of. :)

1. Apparel across campus --> having a dad that works in fashion, I notice these things! I love the footware on campus especially. Rainboots, high-heeled leather boots, Birkenstocks, Converse and Nike Low Dunk sneakers in a variety of bright funky colors (mine are black and pink!) ... the diversity of footware definitely represents how diverse a community we are at Smith. I also love checking out people's headphone choices, buttons on backpacks and what people bust out when the temp is above 60 degrees - bathing suits, winter coats, shorts, prom dresses ... it's all here.

2. The variety of sounds that drift out of Sage, our music building as you walk by. Violins playing classical music, saxaphones busting out jazz, a catchy piano tune and from 2-3pm on Tuesdays, me!

3. The diversity of people on the line for Noodle Bowl or Sushi Night at Comstock/Wilder, our house for Asian dining.

4. Gems of classes like my Self Defense class ... all in one period we had a snack of strawberries, talked about feminism, sat outside in the sun, meditated, learned some new defense moves and shared positive affirmations.

5. Flyers for weekend parties ... "Green Street Gone Greek", anyone?

6. CDO panels. Awesome and smart Smith alumns + food, and I'm there.

7. The variety of things budding on campus. Because Smith is an Arboretum no two trees look alike!

8. The path by Paradise Pond ... I get to take a shortcut and a breather all at the same time.

9. Talking to my peers about how we ended up at Smith, and how much we love being here, despite how much stress we might be under.

10. Looking forward to my afternoon in Northampton tomorrow - going to get ice cream with a friend, maybe getting Sushi for dinner, going to an art opening for a friend and maybe catching a movie. Never ending amount of possibilities in town!
