Smith College Admission Academics Student Life About Smith Offices

 On a beautiful Autumn Sunday

November 09, 2008

I'm finally able to write another blog posting, after a very busy week as usual. I have just dropped off my two hostees from Women of Distinction at the Admissions Office. This weekend we had about 60 women of color from all over the country come visit Smith College to get a feel for whether or not they would like to apply to go to school here. We hope that they all apply, as everyone who applied to Women of Distinction are amazing people, and they would be an asset to any college community! My two prospective students were very energetic, and I think that they had a really great time on campus. As a Gold Key member, I am able to host prospective students as well, and I really love this part of our job duties! It's great to host bright-eyed and inspired young women who are going through on of the "defining" stages of high school where you have to figure out, what's next!?! I find myself in a similar situation these days, but now I have to figure out what to do in the "real world!"

I don't want to make this blog posting too long, because it is a GORGEOUS day outside today, and I need to be outdoors enjoying these last few warm Autumn days while I still can. Yesterday was a little dark and rainy, but a fellow Smith student and I took a wonderfully peaceful walk through the wooded area next to campus. The walk ended up being longer than we had planned, but the trees are beautifully colored and with the wet weather you could really smell the season. I love being outdoors, and there are such great walking and hiking paths around Smith and Western Massachusetts. As much as I love Chicago, the big open plains of the midwest don't offer much for mountain hiking! Speaking of hiking, I'm off to get myself some new hiking shoes today. I bought my last pair about 6 years ago, and well, as any well-worn pair of shoes will show, I now have holes in the soles of my shoes!

Wishing everyone a bright and positive Sunday morning and afternoon! Get outside! Enjoy life!
