At the intersection of the town of Northampton and Smith College,
the campus center provides students, faculty and staff with a comprehensive setting for social
interaction. Imagined as an en-route passage through the campus, the building is defined by various
interconnecting paths that challenge the boundary between inside and outside.

Springing from the path system laid out by Frederic Law
Olmsted for the original campus master plan, these new paths converge into a long, curved, skylit
gallery that forms the core of the design. Spaces along this gallery house lounges, exhibition
spaces, art studios, performance spaces, dining facilities, shops, and student organizations.
A series of outdoor terraces connect the dining and lounge spaces into the surrounding landscape.
Located at the heart of Smith College, the campus center provides a dynamic new home for the
entire college community.
