Guidelines and Procedures

Academic Programs

Information and guidelines for many academic procedures are available on our Web site. There may be official forms and/or applications that need to be completed for each of these procedures as well. The primary resources for information are the registrar's office and the class deans office.

To graduate from Smith College, a student must complete 128 credits of academic work and complete a major. In addition, at least 64 credits must be earned outside the department of the student’s major. The minimum standard of performance is a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in all academic work and a minimum average of 2.0 for the senior year.

All first-year students are required to complete a writing-intensive course. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to take such a course.
