Each student has a faculty adviser who helps her select
and register for courses that will satisfy the broad expectations of the college
and will further her personal goals and aspirations. The dean of the first-year class
assigns a premajor faculty adviser to each first-year student. This faculty member
will continue to advise her until she chooses a major.
Together the adviser and student develop a balanced
academic program, making full use of the courses and programs available. The adviser
approves all registration decisions, including changes made to the course program
after the beginning of a semester. An adviser can help a student find academic and
personal resources and can help her select and pursue various optional programs.
In addition to aiding in the selection of courses, major
advisers often counsel students about preparation for graduate schools or careers. |
